Preconception Counselling

Preconception counseling is defined as health education and promotion. The goal of preconception care is health education and promotion, risk assessment, and intervention before pregnancy to reduce the chances of poor perinatal outcomes. In anticipation of future childbearing years, every individual benefit from education about pregnancy readiness and the role of family and parenting with age-appropriate education.

Infertility Treatment:

First line of treatment of infertile couples is IUI. The semen is processed in CO2 incubator with special culture media and then the best quality sperms are placed in the uterine cavity around the time of ovulation. It is an OPD procedure.

Common reasons for IUI :

  • Low sperm count
  • Decreased sperm mobility
  • Unexplained infertility
  • Ejaculation dysfunction
  • Cervical scar tissue from past procedures which may hinder the sperm's ability to enter the uterus
  • A hostile cervical condition including cervical mucus problem/ ovulation problems
  • High-risk Pregnancy Care:

Approximately 20 - 30 percent of pregnancies fall into the category of high risk. Your doctor may determine that you are high risk if you have a medical condition and become pregnant, or you develop a health issue once you are pregnant. Your medical history, the state of your current pregnancy, and even your age can increase the chance of complications for you and the baby you're carrying. Here are some of the reasons your pregnancy may be high-risk. We provide care for women experiencing a high-risk pregnancy, who require assessment, monitoring or education.

Conditions frequently managed include gestational diabetes, mild pre-eclampsia, and women with a fetus at risk and needing regular monitoring. Women with premature ruptured membranes can come to the Unit as day patients for twice-weekly monitoring, thus avoiding lengthy admissions to the ward.
